After overtaking the U.S. in 2010 to become the world’s largest car market, China hasn’t shown any sign of giving up that position.

Though the country’s sales growth stagnated in 2017, China still sold 10 million cars more than the U.S. The following list shows the 16 best-sellers in China, including imported vehicles.

16. Haval H2 – 215,100 units sold.

Haval is a specialist manufacturer that produces only SUVs. It is part of the large Great Wall Motors Group. Haval launched the H2 back in 2014.

15. Baojun 310 – 215,606

The small hatchback 310 has been on the market since 2016, it is based on the Chevrolet Sail. Baojun is owned by SAIC, GM and Wuling Automobile through a joint venture.

14. Geely Emgrand EC7 – 239,566

This compact sedan was launched under the Emgrand brand in 2009 and now called Geely Emgrand EC7 after Emgrand was discontinued.

13. Changan CS75 – 240,095

The CS75 made its debut in 2013, this crossover sits between Changan’s other SUVs, the CS95 and CS55.

12. Baojun 730 – 270,797

This five-doo,r seven-seater MPV was in production from 2014 to 2017. A little fun fact: Lotus tuned the car’s suspension. The second generation of 730 was announced in November 2017.

11. Volkswagen Jetta Night – 325,979

One of the three Volkswagens to feature in this list, the Jetta first appeared in China in 1991 as the Jetta King and later changed to Jetta Pioneer. Now in second generation, it’s called the Jetta Night and is sold only in China. It shares the same platform with the current Seat Toledo and Skoda Rapid.

10. Volkswagen Sagitar – 332,733

The actual 'Volkswagen Jetta', and larger than the Jetta Night The Sagitar uses the same A5 platform with the current Jetta outside China. 

9. Toyota Corolla – 333,485

Both FAW and GAC manufacture the Corolla in China. However, the latter’s version is known as Levin and has a slightly different design. The sales figure here belongs to the FAW-built Corolla.

8. Trumpchi GS4 – 335,467

Trumpchi is a marque owned by GAC. It introduced the GS4 at the 2015 Shanghai auto show. An EV version was launched a year later.

7. Baojun 510 – 363,949

Another product from SAIC-GM-Wuling, the 510 went on sale in the Chinese market in 2017.

6. Geely Boyue (X7 Sport) – 386,885

The Boyue was originally planned for Geely’s now discontinued Emgrand brand. Outside China, it is marketed as the Geely X7 Sport.

5. Nissan Sylphy – 405,854

The Sylphy is Nissan’s best-selling model in China. An EV version, based on the Leaf, was revealed at the 2018 Beijing motor show.

4. Buick Excelle – 416,990

China continues to be Buick’s main market with sales of the Excelle among top 5. This figure includes both the sales of sedan and hatchback versions.

3. Volkswagen Lavida – 457,959

The final VW car in the list, 2018 marks a decade since the Lavida's debut at the 2008 Auto China. It’s only available for the Chinese market and launched in its current generation in 2012.

2. Haval H6 – 506,418

The H6 from Great Wall's Haval brand has been the top-selling SUV in China for several years. It’s been praised for its spacious and comfortable interior.

1. Wuling Hong Guang – 533,950

The Hong Guang MPV from SAIC-GM-Wuling has been China's best selling car for several years, though its annual sales have declined from a high of 750,019 in 2014.
