Chevrolet has reached a big number in mini cars, surpassing one million sales worldwide of the Spark and Beat hatchback. Earlier this year, Chevrolet sold its 3 millionth Cruze car.

In India, till now GM India has sold a total of 178,053 Beats since production began in the country. The Beat is produced at the carmaker’s manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra.

Powered by petrol and diesel engines, the Beat is positioned as a fuel-efficient hatchback and is GM India’s best-selling model.

In fact, GM India has recently begun exporting Beats. On September 25, first 140 left-hand-drive Chevrolet Beats hatchbacks were shipped from the Mumbai Port Trust in Maharashtra. They are expected to reach Chile in the next few weeks. The company plans similar shipments every month. The Talegaon manufacturing facility has an annual production capacity of 170,000 vehicles and 160,000 engines.

The Spark first went on sale as the Chevrolet Beat in India in late 2009. Today, the Spark is available in 71 markets worldwide, selling the most in South Korea, followed by the United States and Mexico. In the US, sales of the Spark are up 10 percent year to date.

“Our small cars – Spark, Sonic and Cruze – attract more new car buyers to Chevrolet than any other vehicles in the lineup, with more than 60 percent of buyers never owning a Chevy before,” said Alan Batey, executive vice-president of Global Chevrolet.
