Porsche AG has sold a total of 117,963 new vehicle worldwide in the first half of 2016, 3 percent compared with the previous year’s figures. The growth is mainly driven by the Cayman and Boxster models. The sales regions of the USA (+6 percent) and China (+4 percent) have seen a slight increase compared with the same period in the previous year.
According to Detlev von Platen, member of executive board of management - Sales & Marketing, Porsche AG, the current figures meet the company’s expectations. He emphasised that the high levels achieved in the previous year also formed the objective for 2016. “In 2016, consolidating our sales markets will be of primary importance. With the USA, China and Europe as strong sales regions, Porsche is in a very strong position for the future and is to a large extent independent of the volatility of individual markets.”
The Cayman and the Boxster provided a source of significant growth with 6,115 units of Cayman and 6,740 units of Boxster sold worldwide, both recording double-digit growth rates. Compared with the same period in the previous year, the Macan also achieved an increase of 11 percent with a total of 45,086 new vehicle sold, as did the 911 with 18,579 vehicles (+10 percent). As a result of the upcoming model change, Panamera sales remained lower than the level achieved in the previous year.
“The feedback about the world premiere of the new Panamera at the end of June has been unequivocally positive, so we are very optimistic about this. We are anticipating a significant boost from this model,” explained von Platen. The new Panamera will be available from January 2017 in the USA and China.
The strongest individual market in the first half of 2016 was once again China: with 30,440 new vehicles sold, the market ranks above that of the USA (26,708 units). Europe maintained the high levels seen in the previous year and was once again able to grow its sales by 5 percent to 40,646 new vehicles. The German market saw an increase of 2 percent, with 15,299 new vehicles sold.
