MakerMax, a Canadian start-up established in 2016 has expanded its operations in India with an aim to provide high quality comprehensive online education in the field of electric vehicles.

The company will began a exclusive master-class on batteries and BMS, starting its next batch on January 30, 2019, which is designed by a team of experts led by an ex-Tesla battery engineer. The course comes with a unique custom designed hardware kit that makes the learning process extremely engaging and effective, the online class is spread over a duration of four months for easy paced learning of students as well as professionals working in the industry especially in R&D, product development, quality, supply chain and manufacturing.

The course is structured into 16 weekly capsules which include topics such as Introduction to EV technology and Battery technology, intricacies of BMS design, BMS architecture, BMS diagnostics, introduction to cell chemistry, characteristics of a lithium-ion cell, manufacturing process of lithium-ion cells, and algorithms for battery status and safety. The hardware kit that is supplied along with the course will continue to be a useful tool for years to come to test functional and safety algorithms, determine the characteristics of lithium-ion cells and analyse cells from various manufacturers, says MakerMax. The course being highly interactive the batch size is limited to 25 at a time.

Akshay Gill, co-founder, MakerMax said, “Educational institutes are not able to keep pace with the fast-changing EV technologies and therefore end up churning inadequately-trained engineers. Companies have to invest huge amounts of resources to bring the talent up to a level before they are able to contribute effectively. MakerMax is striving to bridge this gap by providing high quality intensive courses for students and professionals, coupled with uniquely designed hardware kits, interactive live sessions and mentorship from industry experts for enhanced engagement and higher retention. MakerMax helps engineers get the right jobs in up and coming EV ecosystem and also trains the professionals to contribute more effectively to organisations."

MakerMax is also expanding its product line to offer unique testing solutions for electric powertrain. The company is going to launch a new product - a compact cell-cycler and analyser, which says will be one-fifth the cost of what is available in the market today. This will allow EV manufacturers and battery designers to batch test the cells they are using in their product, and to keep their supply chain healthy. The compact cell-cycler and analyser model CCA-X4 can be used to simultaneously compare four lithium-ion cells to predict their performance over the stated life cycles. CCA-X4 comes with a high charge, discharge capability, high accuracy acquisition including cell impedance measurement to characterise the cell’s behaviour under various conditions.

MakerMax says its courses and products are becoming popular across the globe including North America, Europe, far East, and Asia as they benefit students and professionals to fast track their careers in the electric vehicle industry.
