Canada to implement 100% tariff on China produced EVs including Teslas: Report 

The duties apply to electric vehicles shipped from China, Tesla cars included, a Canadian government official noted.

Following the United States, now Canada will implement a 100% tariff on imported Chinese EVs, Reuters reported. It will also impose a 25% tariff on steel and aluminium from China, the newswire noted. 

The tariffs will be imposed starting October 1, the newswire noted.The duties apply to electric vehicles shipped from China, Tesla cars included, a Canadian government official noted. 

Canadian imports of automobiles from China to  Vancouver, increased 460% on year, to 44,356 in 2023, when Tesla started shipping Shanghai-made EVs to Canada, Reuters noted. 

The Chinese embassy in Canada called the move "protectionist" and a "politically dominant act", adding that Canada has ignored World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules, the newswire noted.
