In collaboration with Chilean energy distributor ENEL, BYD plans to deliver 100 e-buses for operations in Transantiago, Chile’s public transport system, by late November this year. The buses that are to be delivered are BYD’s K9FE models.

In a bid to move towards electrifying Chile’s public transport system and to improve passenger experiences, ENEL and BYD had introduced two electric buses in Santiago last November. As per the tender, the vehicles to be delivered would be equipped with BYD’s latest battery technology and would comply with the local transport regulations.

This is considered to be one of the largest orders for electric buses in a city

BYD Chile spokeswoman, Tamara Berríos, said, “Operating a BYD pure electric bus is equivalent to reducing carbon emissions from 33 cars. In addition, BYD pure electric buses are safe, quiet and can reduce operating costs by as much as 70 percent. Moreover, a BYD pure electric bus only requires 70 Chilean Pesos (Rs 7.40) to run per kilometre, compared to 350 Chilean Pesos (Rs 37) per kilometre for internal combustion engine buses. We believe that we can deliver on both quality and safety.”

BYD is said to be present in more than 200 cities around the world.
