Automotive supplier Brose is expanding its product portfolio to include an acoustic warning system for electrified vehicles. As early as 2026, the family-owned company will equip several million electric and hybrid vehicles in Europe and North America with the new product.
When starting off and at low speeds, electrified vehicles move almost silently on the roads. The danger is that other road users do not perceive the approaching car acoustically until much later. There are therefore legal regulations worldwide for the installation of a warning system.
Brose has developed its own AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System) that generates artificial driving noise at speeds below 50 km/h. In doing so, the mechatronics specialist drew on its expertise in the fields of acoustics and electronics, for example from the development of sound boxes for door modules. The module's wide frequency range of 200 to 5,000 hertz enables high-quality sounds and individual sound designs. Thanks to the use of innovative simulation tools, the development could also be completed in just a few months.
