The BR-V SUV, launched in May 2016 in India, is playing a key role for Honda in the Indonesian market.

The BR-V, which went on sale in Indonesia (and also Thailand) in January this year, has till end-May 2016 sold a total of 27,085 units, accounting for 30 percent of Honda’s overall sales of 90,190 units. Thanks to the surge in local demand for the BR-V, the Japanese carmaker increased its market share from 15% at the end of 2015 to 20.5% by the end of May 2016.

Other key models like the HR-V and Mobilio also contributed significantly to Honda sales in this period. While the HR-V made up for 21% of total Honda sales with 21,142 units, the Mobilio contributed 20% with 20,426 units.

To support its increasing sales and aftersales demand, Honda has expanded its dealer network across Indonesia. Currently, Honda has 180 dealers throughout the country along with sales, service, and spare parts facilities. In the first semester of 2016, Honda has opened 10 new dealers in various areas and aims to set up a total 200 dealers by the end of this year.

In India, where the BR-V was launched on May 5, the SUV has sold 2,911 units in the first month. Yesterday, Honda Cars India announced that bookings had crossed the 10,000 mark.
