German auto suppliers, Bosch and Benteler have forged a development alliance for combining system integration know-how for rolling chassis as a basis for battery electric vehicles.
In the partnership, Benteler brings its understanding on the requirements that a rolling chassis places on products and systems in the automotive industry, while Bosch provides its knowledge on electric and electronic components and sub-systems (e.g. vehicle control unit, electric drives, electric power steering and braking system) including software and system integration as well as services.
The goal of this development alliance is to combine the know-how for rolling chassis as a basis for battery electric vehicles. The partners want to firstly better understand the requirements that a concept for a rolling chassis places on products and systems. Secondly, this development alliance will allow both companies to further develop products and systems targeted towards their respective usage.
Along with enhancing both companies’ system integration expertise, the development alliance is also designed to help Bosch perform a precise analysis of the market for rolling chassis. It's customers will benefit from new and attractive modular and tailor-made e-mobility solutions – saving them development time for fast growth acceleration. Other benefits include reduction in the number of interfaces and less complexity in development and production.
System integrator
Benteler is a leading global partner for the automotive industry, and has over 140 years of knowledge in terms of engineering, metal-processing competence and production excellence. The company's product portfolio ranges from components and modules for chassis, body-in-white and engine and exhaust applications. That entire technological competence is showcased in the modular e-mobility system solutions from Benteler.
In 2017, it had launched the first prototype of a rolling chassis for electric vehicles – the Benteler Electric Drive System. Now, in the development alliance with Bosch, the partner will further build on this experience of system integration. The company is contributing its know-how in, for instance, integrated crash management, scalable battery storage systems and chassis solutions for electrified axles.
