Benteler’s new EV platform is now series-ready

Earlier this month, German supplier Benteler showcased its new Electric Drive System 2.0 at the Shanghai Auto Show. This platform solution for electric vehicles is now series-ready and has evolved from the first rolling chassis prototype premiered in Shanghai in 2017.

The Benteler Electric Drive System 2.0 is a showcase for the company´s entire engineering and metal-processing competence: from components and modules for chassis, body-in-white and engine and exhaust applications to modular e-mobility system solutions.

The company says the EV platform is now ready for immediate implementation for its customers because it now includes tested and validated crash management and tuned axle systems for high driving comfort and handling. All interfaces to the car body are optimally defined. Benteler is offering entire system engineering and program management from concept to start of production. The company supports its customers in contracted manufacturing or with a license for in-house production. The industrialisation concept is designed for cost-efficient production.
Benteler says the Electric Drive System 2.0 is weight-optimised, adjustable to any customer requirement and scalable for numerous vehicle segments. Specially designed for e-mobility, it integrates several functions which can be ordered as a complete solution or as individual modules:

- Integrated crash management
- Flexible and scalable battery storage system
- Electrified chassis solutions
- E-motor integration for 2WD or 4WD
- Thermal management solutions for electronic components, and
- Wireless and inductive charging.

In cooperation with a globally well-known technology company, Bnteler has recently proven the platform functionality and performance in real conditions. The platform has been connected to a car body and has been driving on roads.

Ralf Gottel: "Our Benteler Electric Drive System 2.0 is the showcase for our entire vehicle competence. It saves our customers several years of development time and supports fast growth acceleration."

Cutting down on development time
According to Ralf Gottel, chairman of the Executive Board of Benteler International AG, “Our customers compete in a highly dynamic, turbulent business environment. While they tackle the challenges of the changing automotive markets, we simplify their business, offering platform solutions. Our Benteler Electric Drive System 2.0 is the showcase for our entire vehicle competence. It saves our customers several years of development time and supports fast growth acceleration.”

Marco Kollmeier, vice-president, Business Unit Electro-Mobility at Benteler Automotive, said, “Electrification in the automotive industry is continuously progressing, driven by megatrends like sustainability, emission reductions as well as mobility requirements. In this context, car manufacturers are increasingly seeking pre-validated system solutions that offer an easy and reliable way to build a new electric vehicle from scratch – one such solution being the Benteler Electric Drive System 2.0.”
