Beijing Motor Show: Hyundai previews new Verna
The new Hyundai Verna concept, a precursor to the new India-bound Verna sedan, has been showcased in near-production guise at the Beijing Motor Show.
Hyundai has taken the wraps off the new Verna concept at the Beijing Motor Show 2016 which opened today.
The Verna concept, a precursor to the new India-bound Verna sedan, has been showcased in near-production guise. The car’s design is based on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, but looks more like an evolution of the one seen on the current-generation Verna on sale in India since 2011.
Up front, the new Verna concept features a large hexagonal grille, with headlamps that mimic the shape of the pre-facelift version of the current-gen model, but are much larger in size. The front bumper gets aggressive cuts and creases which could be toned down in the production car.
Moving to the side, the overall shape of the doors, glasshouse and even wing mirrors is similar to that of the coupé-like current-generation car, but sports a more smoothened look, especially on the doors. At the rear, the concept gets huge wraparound tail-lamps, like on the all-new Elantra sedan. The restyled bumper now houses LED lamps, as well as the license plate.
In India, the new Verna will take on the likes of the Honda City, the Maruti Ciaz, the Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. There is no news on the engine and the interior bits as of now. A production-spec model of the next-gen Verna can be expected to be unveiled later this year.
