Shortly after Daimler announced a recall of around 840,000 vehicles in the United States due to potentially defective Takata airbag models, the carmaker’s German counterparts Audi and Volkswagen have also joined the list of manufacturers issuing a recall in the US.

Both Audi and Volkswagen have been notified by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that certain driver side front airbags made by the manufacturer Takata could be defective.

Audi is set to recall 170,000 automobiles from model year 2005 through 2014, while up to 680,000 Volkswagen cars of model year 2006 to 2014 could be affected.

It is not the first time that airbags made by the Japanese manufacturer are under the spotlight with the US familiar with recalls due to Takata airbags in the past.
