Aisin to produce hybrid motor for Mitsubishi in Thailand

Mitsubishi Motors has awarded new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) business to Aisin. The Japanese component manufacturer’s integrated hybrid units, which consists of a drive motor and gearbox, will be sold directly by Aisin to Mitsubishi Motors.

The hybrid unit, developed by Aisin, is to be installed in the ‘XForce’ hybrid EV model recently unveiled in Thailand. The Xforce is the hybrid version of the powerful XForce crossover SUV manufactured by Mitsubishi since 2023.

The hybrid unit used is Aisin's first series-parallel model, jointly developed with Mitsubishi Motors. By adopting a dog clutch separation mechanism that applies manual transmission technology, it is possible to optimally switch between motor driving and engine driving according to the driving situation, achieving high fuel efficiency and driving performance without compromising vehicle mountability.

This product will be produced at Aisin Powertrain (Thailand) Co and will mark Asin’s first electric unit production in the ASEAN region, which is part of its strategic plan to develop a global production system for electrification.
