A scientist duo from AIIMS and IIT, Dr Shashi Ranjan and Yogesh Agarwal have invented Airlens Car Air Sanitiser to help purify the air inside a car or any other closed vehicle. Remember the car AC is not an alternative to an air purifier. The air conditioning system is not geared to filter out PM 2.5, PM 10 and other pollutants that impact human health. With Airlens, it is possible to purify the air immediately and also save on car battery energy.

In addition to these, it is also easy to carry and can be placed on a car’s dashboard or bonnet. It is priced affordably and costs about one-tenth of any conventional air purifier. Currently, it is available for cars but they are also working on launching one for school buses soon. The team has also invented nasal filters earlier to tackle the menace of growing air pollution in Delhi.

Pollution inside a closed vehicle can be higher than outside. This can be even more detrimental to one’s health. Government data indicates more than 3 million cars are registered in Delhi and 1000 new cars keep getting added on an average every day. Apart from cars, Delhi also has more than 500 school vans. Airlens can be placed inside the car replacing the existing cabin/AC filter and in less than 2 minutes the air inside the car is purified as per WHO standard.
