The engineering sector in India, catering to a variety of related industries such as infrastructure, power, mining, oil and gas, refinery and steel, comprises the largest industrial sector in the country. Driven by increased investment in infrastructure and industrial production, the sector has witnessed remarkable growth over the last few years. With extensive infrastructural plans like the National Infrastructural Pipeline (NIP) in progress, the industry is expected to flourish further, playing a significant role in boosting India’s economy.

One such major player in the industry is Technocon Group of Companies. Established in 1982, the company is a leading technical service provider that extends quality engineering services to a host of clients. The company has charted a significant 20% YOY growth rate in revenues over the past 5 years, with an annual revenue of over Rs. 3 billion. The steadily expanding company has forayed into a variety of technologically driven avenues, including diesel engines, electrical motors and alternators, telecom, ship building and repair, automobile, green energy transportation and logistics. It is backed by a robust fleet of over 650 Tata Motors vehicles, including leading models from their small commercial vehicle (SCV) segments. Tata Ace dominates its fleet.

Commenting on his alliance with Tata Motors, Mr. Soumya Sen, Chairman and Managing Director, Technocon Group of Companies, said, “We started our journey with Tata Motors back in 2006. Their commercial vehicle offerings have showcased unmatched performance, delivering high return on investment. The superior load carrying ability and higher uptime of models like the Tata Ace has monumentally impacted our efficiency, facilitating smooth movement across our value chain. Opting for Tata vehicles has given us a significant competitive advantage, as they highly enhance ease of operations and facilitate fleet management.”

Their sales and service team has been excellent,” he added, “They have catered to our specific needs, keeping in mind our category and usage, and we have always gotten support in time in case there were any hiccups in operations. Provisions like Tata Alert have ensured on-time assistance in case of any breakdowns, while compensation covers under Tata Zippy and Tata Kavach have helped us remain assured of constant assistance even during unforeseen challenges.”

Speaking of the BS6 transition in particular, he said, “Migrating to newer emission norms has been an important task, and our group of technical experts in the company has sought timely support from the Tata Motors service team. They have really assisted us in mitigating the challenges that have arisen due to the transition by conducting workshops and training programs on the same.”

Commenting on his company’s close commitment towards driver welfare, Mr. Sen noted, “We have always aimed to work in the best interests of our drivers, seeking to provide them with upgraded industry-relevant knowledge while providing them with all statutory benefits. Tata Motors has augmented this endeavour of ours, continually organising driver training programs to educate our drivers in cabin safety, fuel efficiency, mileage optimisation and reduced turnaround time. This has been exceedingly satisfying for our drivers”.

The offerings under Sampoorna Seva specifically”, he added, “have been received very well by them. The host of benefits dedicated for drivers under this program, including accidental insurance and Mediclaim is one-of-its-kind. Besides, Tata Motors truly seeks to stand beside our driving partners in times of need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company extended coverage for COVID-19 testing and treatment for all drivers enrolled under Swasthya Samarth”.

Reliable product offerings and exemplary services, in addition to the close and trusted bond we share, have been the most important factors to have contributed to our resilient partnership with Tata Motors”, said Mr. Sen. “Most recently, we have been looking into the electric vehicle space. We believe the presence of quality EV products in our commercial fleet will further enhance our operation.”

Providing his concluding remarks, Mr. Sen said, “In today’s competitive market, innovative offerings that provide better return on investment will play a crucial role in our journey towards growth. We remain confident that Tata Motors will stand with us as we charge ahead in this journey.” With promising prospects of expansion in the allied spheres of industrial manufacturing, infrastructure and logistics, engineering and technical service providers like Technocon Group of Companies will play an important role in India’s journey towards development.
