TVS Raider 125 crosses 700,000 sales in 29 months, is top TVS bike in FY2024

In less than two-and-a-half years since its launch, the TVS Raider 125, TVS Motor Co’s first product in the rapidly-growing 125cc commuter motorcycle market, has quickly captured demand and raced past cumulative sales of 700,000 units in the domestic market.

Launched on September 16, 2021, the Raider has, in a span of 29 months till end-January 2024, sold a total of 714,484 units and turned out to be a key contributor to TVS’ overall growth in the two-wheeler market. Among the new products that are catering to surging demand for sporty 125cc motorcycles, the tech-laden Raider continues to witness an accelerating pace of consumer acceptance from Gen-Z motorcycle buyers.

Raider 125's wholesales of 398,354 units between April 2023 and January 2024 have jumped 124% YoY (April 2022-January 2023: (178,040 units)

Its wholesales of 398,354 units in the first 10 months of the ongoing FY2024 have soared 124% YoY, surpassing the 239,388 units it clocked in the 12 months of FY2023. Being in the extremely competitive segment, which has well-established products like the Hero Glamour and Super Splendor, Bajaj Pulsar and Honda Shine, the Raider 125’s sustained sales pace is creditable.

What’s more, the Raider has become TVS’ best-selling motorcycle in the current fiscal, ahead of the Apache series’ 10-month cumulative sales of 309,242 units. What’s more, the Raider is the third-best-selling TVS product on two wheels after the Jupiter scooter (699,613 units) and the XL moped (399,877 units).

The Raider 125 with 398,354 units is leading TVS motorcycle sales and is the third best-selling two-wheeler for the company after the Jupiter and XL.

As the sales data table (shown above) depicts, the Raider 125 accounts for 39% of TVS’ motorcycle sales of 10,21,739 units in the first 10 months of FY2024. The Raider is followed by the Apache (309,242 units and 30% share), Sport (148,457 and 14.5% share), Radeon (109,696 units and 11% share), Star City (37,329 units), Ronin (13,885 units) and the RR310 (4,776 units).

The Raider 125 does the 0-60kph sprint in 5.9 seconds, has a top speed of 99kph and fuel efficiency of 67 kilometres per litre.

SPORTY STYLING DRAWS GEN-Z BIKE AFICIONADOS

Available in three variants (single seat, split seat and ZX), the Raider 125’s on-road Mumbai pricing starts at Rs 93,700 for the single-seat bike, Rs 94,700 for the split seat variant and to Rs 100,800 for the range-topping Raider 125SX.

Among the TVS Raider 125’s standout elements is its athletic-looking styling in the form of the muscular tank, snazzy headlight and minimalist tail-lamp, as also the split seat. Clearly, the snazzy styling with more than a hint of sportiness, when compared to the staid designs of most of its rivals, seems to have paid dividends to the Raider 125. What seems to have drawn buyers to the TVS Raider 125 is also the number of features like daytime running lights, pass-light switch, pillion grabrail, pillion seat, pillion footrest, tripmeter, electric start and clock.

Voted Autocar India's Bike of the Year 2022, for its combination of striking looks, punchy engine and value-for-money proposition, the Raider 125 is powered by TVS’ potent 124.8cc engine, which develops 11.4hp and 11.2 Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed transmission. TVS claims this motorcycle, which is shod with 17-inch tyres, accelerates from 0-60kph in 5.9 seconds and goes on to hit a top speed of 99kph. Fuel efficiency is a claimed 67 kilometres per litre.

In October 2022, TVS launched the range-topping variant of its Raider 125 equipped with a 5-inch TFT cluster. The standard Raider 125 continues to have a digital LCD display. Equipping the Raider 125 with a five-inch TFT cluster has brought a whole new bunch of features. The TFT dash can be paired with the rider’s smartphone enabling receiving of notification alerts, weather forecast as well as turn-by-turn navigation. Also, when the low-fuel warning light comes on, the Raider 125 will automatically navigate to the nearest petrol station.

In August 2023, in an effort to add some pizzazz to the model, TVS launched the Raider Super Squad Edition which draws on the company’s connect with the iconic Marvel Super Heroes – Black Panther and Iron Man.

Given that TVS Motor Co’s bike sales at 10,21,739 units in the first 10 months of FY2024 are already the company’s best ever fiscal year sales, going past FY2019’s 10,14,923 units, demand for the Raider 125 along with the other TVS bikes will further propel the company’s sales to a record high.
