Launched on October 18, 2021, this compact SUV has punched above its weight and has become Tata Motors’ second best-seller after the Nexon.
The Tata Punch was launched on October 18, 2021. Seen here (L-R) are Rajendra Petkar, President & CTO, Tata Motors and Shailesh Chandra, President - PVBU, Tata Motors.
The Tata Punch is the youngest member of Tata Motors' ‘New Forever’ range.
Sole 1.2-litre petrol engine in Tata Punch ironically lacks punch; delivers fuel efficiency of 18.82kpl in Manual and 18.97kpl in AMT.
On October 14, 2021, the Punch aced the Global NCAP crash test with a 5-star rating for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant protection.
September 2022 with 12,251 units, was the Punch's best monthly tally in the past year.
Tough build, adequate ground clearance and elevated seating lensd the Punch some SUV-ness.
August 11, 2022: The Tata Punch was the fastest in India to clock 100,000 sales, barely 10 months after launch.
In terms of equipment, the base Pure trim packs in dual airbags, ABS, ISOFIX child seat anchors, front power windows, central locking and engine start/stop tech.
Practical cabin is good for seating four.
Today is October 18, which marks a year since the Tata Punch compact SUV was launched in the Indian market priced at Rs 549,000. From launch through to end-September 2022, the Punch has clocked total sales of 118,767 units, which translates into average monthly sales of 9,897 units.
That’s solid performance for any new model, even if it is among those riding the surging wave of demand for compact SUVs in India. Proof of the Punch’s sales power came within the first few months of launch itself (see 12-month data table below) and it soon jumped from four-figure sales to five figures in January 2022 with 10,027 units. Since then, other than February’s 2022’s 9,592 units, the Punch has sold in excess of 10,000 units every month with the highest coming up in September: 12,251 units.
Given this kind of market momentum, it was not surprising that the Tata Punch set a new benchmark in the Indian PV industry by becoming the first SUV in India to achieve the fastest 100,000 sales milestone in a span of just 10 months, since its launch on October 18, 2021. It has received a phenomenal response from customers for its snazzy design, robust performance and best-in-class 5-star safety.
Four days before its launch, on October 14, 2021, the Tata Punch aced the Global NCAP crash test with a 5-star rating. In the past year, the Punch has quickly moved into becoming Tata Motors’ second-best-selling model after the Nexon. And in the first six months of the ongoing fiscal, with 66,051 units, it is fourth-placed in the Top 10 utility vehicles list.
Punching above its weight

The Punch offers a wide array of options at different price points to choose from, catering to a wide spectrum of consumer needs.
