Tata Motors secured the leading position in India's commercial vehicle retail market for October 2026, registering 39,914 units and capturing a 34.67 percent market share.
The company's retail performance was an improvement on its 31.89 percent market share from 35,901 units recorded in October 2025.
A comparative analysis of the commercial vehicle sector highlights competitive positioning across major OEMs during the month. Mahindra recorded total commercial vehicle retail sales of 31,500 units, capturing a 27.36 percent market share. Ashok Leyland followed with 20,774 retail units and an 18.04 percent market share, while VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) posted 9,603 units representing an 8.34 percent share, and Maruti Suzuki registered 5,041 units accounting for a 4.38 percent share.
This retail momentum coincided with broader industry expansion. Total commercial vehicle retail across the industry rose 2.29 percent year-on-year and 11.19 percent sequentially over September to reach 115,140 units, marking a best-ever October for the segment despite a high comparative base.
Growth was heavily anchored by heavier trucks, with heavy commercial vehicles up 28.95 percent and medium commercial vehicles up 21.16 percent. Dealership networks attributed the performance to sustained freight movement, infrastructure execution, and steady industrial haulage for coal, iron ore, and e-commerce cargo.
