Maruti Suzuki’s SUV, MPV share of PV sales at 42% in H1 FY2027 with 455,692 units
Utility vehicle market leader’s nine-model portfolio scales a new high for the first half of a fiscal and places it on track to crack the 900,000 UV milestone for the first time in FY2027. While the three mass-market Arena models have sold 265,085 units, the six Nexa UVs registered sales of 190,607 units.
Passenger vehicle market leader Maruti Suzuki India has crossed the 1-million wholesales mark for the first time in the first-half of a fiscal in April-September 2026. The 10,80,240 units are a handsome 36% YoY increase and the result of a revival in demand for its cars and sedans following GST 2.0 price reductions and, importantly, the big jump in sales of its utility vehicles comprising SUVs and MPVs.
The seven passenger cars (Alto, Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, S-Presso, Swift, Wagon R) registered 34% YoY growth with 551,094 units (H1 FY2026: 411,801 units), which translates into an additional 139,293 units. The Eeco van (73,454 units) posted an 11% YoY increase.
Speedier growth came from the nine-model UV line-up (Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris, XL6) which hit a new first-half high of 455,692 units, up 44% YoY (H1 FY2026: 317,379 units) and made for an additional 138,313 units YoY.
In terms of current UV industry market share, Maruti Suzuki has 26% of the 1.78 million UVs sold in first-half FY2026, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (358,142 UVs, 20% share), Tata Motors (3,13,249 UVs, 18% share), Kia India (168,683 UVs, 9% share) and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (155,669 UVs, 9% share).
From a 23% share of PV sales in first-half FY2022 to 42% in H1 FY2027, demand for Maruti Suzuki UVs has jumped 82 percent. As in FY2026, they maintain the same 42% share of PVs in H1 FY2027.
Specific to its UV sales, the company’s dispatches in H1 FY2027 are maintaining the same 42% share level they had in FY2026: 760,987 units out of 18,23,129 passenger vehicles.
The surge in demand in the current fiscal (for both UVs and cars) is the result of improved affordability with GST 2.0, consumer shift towards CNG and e-mobility in the wake of stiff petrol and diesel prices as well as strong financing support.
For Maruti Suzuki, which has been the UV market leader since the past nine fiscals, the H1 FY2027 sales of 455,692 units are already 60% of its highest UV sales (760,987 units) in FY2026 and places it on track to surpass both the 800,000 and 900,000 milestones for the first time in FY2027.
This booster shot from UVs, along with strong demand for its hatchbacks and the Dzire sedan, will see Maruti surpass the 2 million PV domestic market milestone for the first time in FY2027.

Other than the Brezza, which was impacted by buyers delaying purchase decisions in Q1 to Q2 for the launch of the new model, all the other eight Maruti UVs registered growth in first-half FY2027.
ERTIGA, FRONX LEAD THE CHARGE, SIX NEXA MODELS HAVE 42% SHARE OF MARUTI UV SALES
Of the cars, vans and UV sub-segments in the passenger vehicle segment, UVs remain the most competitive. Every OEM worth its wheel is fighting for a share and slice of the mega action, with the battle for supremacy highest in the compact SUV and midsize SUV categories. These two sub-segments are also where the Top 20 best-selling models reside.
The UV arena is a tough one, what with over 30 SUV and MPV manufacturers (including the 18 SIAM member OEMs with around 90 models and also the luxury OEMs), nearly 130 individual models and over 1,000 variants. This is also what makes Maruti Suzuki’s sustained growth in this segment noteworthy.
With 112,557 units, every fourth Maruti UV sold in H1 FY2027 was an Ertiga, India’s longstanding highest-selling MPV and the company’s first crack at the people-mover segment. As a value-focussed, seven-seater targeted at buyers who seek space and low running costs, the Ertiga has been instrumental in making the company the UV market leader since FY2018.
While the premium Fronx compact SUV clocked 110,135 units, up 43% YoY and maintains its 24% share, the Brezza compact SUV sold 80,516 units, down 5%, which can be attributed to buyers delaying their purchase decision in Q1 to Q2 when the new Brezza was launched.
The Victoris midsize SUV, launched in September 2025 from the mass-market Arena channel, has given Maruti UV numbers a booster shot. The 72,012 units, attributed to this solid family-oriented SUV that competes strongly with the Hyundai Creta, account for a 16% share of the company’s sales in first-half FY2027.
In fourth place is the Grand Vitara midsize SUV with 45,176 units, up 22%, and a 10% model-wise share compared to 12% in the year-ago period.
The XL6 MPV checks in at No. 6 with 20,389 units, up 20% YoY albeit its 4% share is down on the 5% it had a year ago.
While the e-Vitara, the manufacturer’s only all-electric offering in India, registered wholesales of 10,051 units in the first six months of FY2027, the Jimny (3,221 units, up 17%) and the Invicto MPV (1,635 units, up 10%) wrap up the nine-model UV portfolio’s sales.
Of the nine models, three – Ertiga, Brezza and Victoria – are retailed from the mass-market Arena channel and six – Fronx, Grand Vitara, e-Vitara, XL, Jimny and Invicto – are sold from the premium Nexa channel. While the three Arena models sold 265,085 units (up 45% YoY) and accounted for a 58% share of the 455,692 UVs Maruti sold in H1 FY2027, the six Nexa UVs clocked sales of 190,607 units (up 41% YoY) and comprised the balance 42% share.
