Growing demand for the two electric-origin SUVs sees Mahindra & Mahindra roll out 3,692 units from the Chakan plant and despatch 4,021 units in May 2025. This takes cumulative five-month production and sales numbers beyond 15,000 units, with the BE 6 and XEV 9e helping M&M increase its share of electric passenger vehicle market to 15% in the first five months of CY2025.

As a result of demand picking up for its two electric-origin SUVs – the BE 6 and XEV 9e – Mahindra & Mahindra has registered its highest-ever monthly production and wholesales since the two new EVs were launched in India in January 2025. May 2025 saw a total of 3,692 units manufactured at the Chakan plant and 4,021 units dispatched to M&M dealers across the country. This takes their cumulative production and sales to over 15,000 units (see data table below). Four units have also been exported – one in March and three in May.
As the five-month production and sales split reveals, May 2025 constitutes the best numbers yet for these two new e-SUVs. Cumulative wholesales of 15,059 units give the BE 6 and XEV 9e a 6% share of the 253,888 SUVs M&M has dispatched to dealers in the January-May 2025 period, up 21% YoY. In CY2024, M&M had sold a record 528,460 SUVs which means sales in the first five months of CY2025 are already 48% of that score.
On the retail sales front, M&M, which also sells the XUV400, has clocked total retail sales of 9,307 units between January and May 2025, as per Vahan statistics. This gives the company a 15% market share of the total 60,398 electric passenger vehicles sold in India in the past five months. In May 2025, M&M clocked retail sales of 2,695 units, which makes for a 21% share of the 12,565 E-PVs sold. This clearly is the result of the BE e and XEV 9e entering the e-PV market and helping Mahindra up the ante and also take on market leader Tata Motors.
Given the huge customer interest in the two new Mahindra e-SUVs, which received 30,179 bookings on the first day, it was felt the monthly numbers would be much higher. However, it is early days yet for them, so we’ll just have to wait to see how the market responds over the next six months. Considering that all variants of the XEV 9e and BE 6 have not been introduced, with the lower-priced variants equipped with the 59kWh battery slated for customer delivery between June and August, the monthly numbers could see a spike soon.
Furthermore, given the fact that the overwhelming share of the 30,000-plus bookings for the two electric-origin SUVs are for the top-end ‘Pack 3’ variant, it is likely that M&M will introduce new variants to make its sales mix more balanced. Currently, the larger 79kWh battery on the XEV 9e is only offered with the top-spec Pack Three trim, while all lower trims come with the 59kWh battery pack. With the update, M&M will essentially be offering the 79kWh battery with the second-from-base Pack Three Select trim; meanwhile, the smaller 59kWh battery will also be with the top-spec Pack Three trim.
The company remains bullish on customer demand coming its way for these two premium zero-emission SUVs, which push the EV envelope with their high-performance drivetrains, in-house assembled lithium-ion phosphate battery packs, top-notch crash safety standards, and a host of interior features benchmarked to the highest level.
The BE 6 and XEV 9e are both built on the INGLO modular, lightweight skateboard architecture platform, which is the foundation of Mahindra's Electric Origin SUVs and represents a fusion of Indian innovation and global standards. This delivers a host of benefits across multiple fronts.
The two BEVs get 79kWh and 59kWh LFP Battery options. The 79kWh battery pack enables a certified range of 682km for the BE 6 and 656km for the XEV 9e with 79kWh battery pack. Charging from 20% to 80% takes just 20 minutes (with 175kW fast charger). The rear-mounted e-motor develops power of 210kW and delivers 380 Nm of instant torque to facilitate strong performance.
The 7-airbags-equipped BEV 6 and XEV 9e are also high on the safety quotient and both have aced the Bharat NCAP crash test with a 5-star rating.
Other platform-driven highlights include a semi-active suspension, best-in-class manoeuvrability owing to a variable gear-ratio steering system, an intelligent braking system and a high level of occupant comfort with a multi-link suspension.
The two new zero-emission SUVs also benefit from MAIA (Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture), which is the advanced neural network that powers the BE 6 and XEV 9e. MAIA integrates state-of-the-art hardware and software to offer an intelligent, connected, and personalised driving experience, which is increasingly a sought-after product attribute for premium SUV and car buyers.
