Growing demand for Mahindra & Mahindra’s two electric-origin SUVs – BE 6 and XEV 9e – has seen the company ramp up production at its Chakan plant. This is reflected in the company’s output crossing the 4,000-unit mark for the first time in June, which takes cumulative January-June 2025 production of these two e-SUVs to 19,915 units.
The same period has seen 19,070 units being dispatched from the factory to dealers across India, with the 4,000-unit mark being surpassed for the second month in a row in June (see production and sales data table below). Five units have also been exported – one in March, three in May and one in June.
Ramped-up production to meet growing demand for the two e-SUVs sees the 4,000 mark being crossed for the first time in June. BE 6 and XEV 9e account for 6.33% of M&M’s record 301,194 SUV sales in January-June 2025.
On the monthly wholesales front, June (4,011 units) is the second month in a row that factory dispatches have surpassed the 4,000-unit mark. Cumulative six-month dispatches of 19,070 units give the BE 6 and XEV 9e a 6.33% share of the record 301,194 SUVs that M&M has dispatched to dealers, up 20% YoY, in H1 CY2025. This also means that M&M has already achieved 57% of its record CY2024 sales of 528,460 SUVs and sets the stage for the SUV manufacturer to drive past the 600,000 milestone for the first time in both the current calendar year as well as FY2026.
M&M doubles its e-PV retail market share in H1 2025
On the retail sales front, as per Vahan data, M&M, whose e-passenger vehicle portfolio comprises the XUV400, BE 6 and XEV 9e, has delivered 12,585 e-SUVs to customers in the past six months.
This constitutes an additional 8,715 units YoY and a handsome 225% YoY increase (January-June 2024: 3,870 units). As a result of this stellar performance, M&M’s share of the e-PV market has more than doubled to 17% from 8% a year ago and gives it third rank behind Tata Motors (38%) and JSW MG Motor India (32%).
The BE 6 boasts an ARAI range of 682km using the 79kWh battery pack and 556km with the 59kWh unit. Its bigger sibling, the XEV 9e, offers single-charge ranges of 656km and 542km, respectively. While both e-SUVs come with rear-wheel drive motors, tuned to develop 286hp (with the 79kWh battery) and 231hp (with the 59kWh battery), peak torque output is the same at 380 Nm.
What will give the two Mahindra electric-origin SUVs new sales power in the competitive e-PV market is the company’s recent strategic move to offer the larger 79 kWh battery pack as an option on the mid-spec Pack Two variants of the BE 6 and XEV 9e, over the existing 59kWh unit. The larger battery was previously exclusive to the range-topping Pack Three variants. While the BE Pack Two 79 kWh is priced at Rs 23.50 lakh, the CEV 9e Pack Two costs Rs 26.50 lakh. Deliveries of both these variants are to start this month.
The company remains bullish on customer demand coming its way for these two premium zero-emission SUVs, which push the EV envelope with their high-performance drivetrains, in-house assembled lithium-ion phosphate battery packs, top-notch crash safety standards, and a host of interior features benchmarked to the highest level.
BUILT ON THE INGLO PLATFORM
The BE 6 and XEV 9e are both built on the INGLO modular, lightweight skateboard architecture platform, which is the foundation of Mahindra's Electric Origin SUVs and represents a fusion of Indian innovation and global standards. This delivers a host of benefits across multiple fronts.
The two BEVs get 79kWh and 59kWh LFP Battery options. The 79kWh battery pack enables a certified range of 682km for the BE 6 and 656km for the XEV 9e with 79kWh battery pack. Charging from 20% to 80% takes just 20 minutes (with 175kW fast charger). The rear-mounted e-motor develops power of 210kW and delivers 380 Nm of instant torque to facilitate strong performance.
The 7-airbags-equipped BEV 6 and XEV 9e are also high on the safety quotient and both have aced the Bharat NCAP crash test with a 5-star rating.
Other platform-driven highlights include a semi-active suspension, best-in-class manoeuvrability owing to a variable gear-ratio steering system, an intelligent braking system and a high level of occupant comfort with a multi-link suspension.
The two new zero-emission SUVs also benefit from MAIA (Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture), which is the advanced neural network that powers the BE 6 and XEV 9e. MAIA integrates state-of-the-art hardware and software to offer an intelligent, connected, and personalised driving experience, which is increasingly a sought-after product attribute for premium SUV and car buyers.
Between FY2016 to FY2025, M&M has more than doubled its sales. Given its current growth trajectory, it should surpass the 600,000 wholesales mark for the first time, both in CY2025 and FY2026.
MAHINDRA WITNESSES ACCELERATED GROWTH SINCE FY2023
A look at M&M’s decadal wholesales numbers reveals the SUV manufacturer has more than doubled its 2016 sales of 236,307 units 10 years later to 551,487 units. Between FY2016 and FY2019, the company averaged annual sales of 243,911 units and then, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, hit lows of 186,942 units in FY2020 and 157,215 units in FY2021.
However, since then, M&M's rise and market performance has been stratospheric. FY2022’s 225,895 units were a 44% YoY increase and were followed by 359,253 units in FY2023, up 59% YoY. FY2024 saw M&M hit a new high of 459,877 units, up 28% YoY. FY2025 with 551,487 units set a new benchmark, with the company having surpassed the 500,000 or half-a-million units wholesales milestone for the first time in a fiscal.
Is 600,000 SUVs and beyond for the asking for the company this year and in FY2026? In a market that remains hungry for SUVs, and following its stellar performance in Q1 FY2026 and H1 CY2025, Mahindra & Mahindra is extremely well placed to achieve new sales milestones both for the current calendar year and fiscal year.
