Kia India sells 19,500 UVs in May, Sonet outsells Seltos for fifth straight month

Kia India has reported a 4% year-on-year increase in wholesales in May 2024. The feature-laden and ADAS-equipped new Sonet, launched in January 2024, is turning into a quick growth driver for the company.

Kia India sells 19,500 UVs in May, Sonet outsells Seltos for fifth straight month

Kia India has announced dispatches of 19,500 vehicles in May 2024, which makes for a 4% year-on-year increase (May 2023: 18,766 units). While combined sales for the first two months of FY2025 are 39,468 units, down 10%, the company’s cumulative sales for the first five months of CY2024 add up to 104,837 units, down 10% (January-May 2023: 116,717 units).

Meanwhile, the new Sonet compact SUV, equipped with plenty of features and also ADAS and launched in January 2024, has emerged as Kia India’s highest-selling model in May with 7,433 units, followed by the Seltos midsize SUV (6,736 units) and the Carens MPV (5,316 units).

Interestingly, data analytics reveal that the Sonet has outsold the Seltos, which is Kia India’s first model launched in August 2019, for five straight months from January 2024. The Sonet’s cumulative January-May 2024 sales at 44,716 units are 31% more than the Seltos’ 34,038 units in the same period.

Meanwhile, Kia India’s official press release today (June 1) also confirmed Autocar Professional’s May 26, 2024 analysis of the company surpassing the 250,000 units export milestone. The Seltos midsize SUV, Kia India’s first product and also its best-seller both in the domestic market to date as well as exports, tops the export chart with 147,615 units and a 58% share of total exports. The Sonet, with 87,779 units, is second and has a 35% share of Kia India’s overseas shipments. The Carens MPV, with 17,295 units exported in 27 months, is next and has a 7% share of exports.

Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice-President and Head Sales & Marketing at Kia India, said: "So far in this year, we have been aggressive in introducing new competitive variants of our models, which has contributed significantly to our sales. With a robust network expansion strategy in place, we shall continue to grow in the rest of the year and cross the million domestic sales milestone soon”.

Kia India has announced that its two global models, World car of the year EV9 and the new Carnival, will be launched in India in the second half of the year.
