India shines for Kia, accounts for 9% of global sales in first 11 months of 2022
Growing importance of India market seen in Kia India’s cumulative sales of 239,372 units in January- November with five products; Seltos contributes 33% to global sales of the SUV in November.
Kia Corporation has reported total global sales of 252,825 units in November 2022, a 15% increase year-on-year (November 2021: 219,845). The Korean carmaker’s Indian arm – Kia India – sold 24,025 units, accounting for 9.5% of global sales last month.
Kia’s global sales were led by its SUV line-up, with the Sportage (39,335 units) and the Seltos (27,947 units) achieving the highest sales numbers. While the India market does not have the Sportage, the Seltos is Kia’s best-seller in India and went home to 9,284 buyers, contributing 33% to the midsize SUV’s global sales last month.
In the year to date – January to November 2022 – Kia has sold a total of 2,663,734 units, which is a 3.7% YoY increase (January-November 2021: 2,568,091). Of this, Kia India’s share is 239,372 units, up 38% (January-November 2021: 173,786) and accounting for 9% of the company’s total global sales in the first 11 months of the year.
The India market contribution increases to 11% when seen solely as overseas market cumulative sales of 2,173,202 units. Sales in the home market of Korea were 490,532 units between January and November this year. Key markets for Kia include the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific, India, and Central and South America regions.
