Honda Unicorn outsells Bajaj Pulsar in 125-150cc segment in FY2025

With total sales of 282,536 units in FY2025, the Honda Unicorn 150 has gone ahead of Bajaj Auto, the segment leader in FY2024, by 10,916 units. The Bajaj Pulsar’s sales in the 125-150cc segment were 271,620 units comprising four variants – Pulsar 125, Pulsar N125, Pulsar 150 and Pulsar N150.

Honda Unicorn outsells Bajaj Pulsar in 125-150cc segment in FY2025

The 150cc Unicorn, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s vehicle of entry into the domestic motorcycle market in 2004, continues to draw buyers 21 years after production began. As per industry body SIAM’s wholesales numbers for the recently ended FY2025, the Honda Unicorn has sold a total of 282,536 units, which is a 388% increase on a low year-ago base (FY2024: 57,873 units).

As per SIAM data, of the 12 motorcycle sub-segments, the 125cc to 150cc category sold 722,261 units and registered strong 35% YoY growth (FY2024: 533,859 units), thereby contributing to 6% of total motorcycle industry sales of 1,22,52,305 units, up 5.1% YoY.

The 125-150cc category was the fifth highest contributor to overall bike sales in FY2025 after the 75-110cc segment (5.65 million units and 46% share), 110-125cc segment (3.60 million units and 29% share), 150-200cc segment (1.09 million units and 9% share) and the 250-350cc segment (866,492 units and 7% share).

The 125-150cc segment clocked sales of 722,261 units, up 35% YoY. Honda, with 282,536 units of the Unicorn 150, sold 10,916 units more than Bajaj Auto (271,620 units of the Pulsar). 

When one delves into the FY2025 OEM-wise and model-wise performance in the 125-150cc segment, what stands out is that Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has beaten Bajaj Auto, which was the segment leader in FY2024 by 10,916 units.  

While HMSI sold 282,536 units of the Unicorn 150 (up 388% YoY), Bajaj Auto has clocked total sales of 271,620 units (down 5% YoY) comprising the four variants of the Pulsar – Pulsar 125, Pulsar N125, Pulsar 150 and Pulsar N150). The Pulsar variant-wise sales splits are, however, not available.

The 149.2cc Honda Unicorn, which is priced at Rs 109,500, develops maximum power of 12.9 hp and maximum torque of 12.8 Nm. Pricing for the 124.4cc Bajaj Pulsar 125 (3 variants), which develops max power of 9.5hp and 9.7 Nm starts at Rs 81,400 up to Rs 94,900. The Pulsar NS125 costs Rs 104,400. While the 149cc-engined single-disc Pulsar 150, with 14hp and 13.4 Nm, costs Rs 110,400, the Pulsar N150, with the same power characteristics, costs Rs 118,000 without Bluetooth connectivity and Rs 124,000 with Bluetooth. All prices are ex-showroom Mumbai.

Honda bike share rises to 20%, Bajaj’s drops to 17%
The strong performance in this segment contributed to Honda’s total motorcycle sales of 24,82,250 units, up 24% YoY (FY2024: 19,99,529 units) and gives it a 20% share of India bike market in FY2025, up from 17% in FY2024. Hero MotoCorp with 52,18,401 motorcycles, up 4%YoY, remains the No. 1 with a 43% bike market share which is the same it had in FY2024.

Bajaj Auto, the No. 2 motorcycle OEM in India, sold a total of 20,31,066 units in FY2025, down 4% YoY (FY2024: 21,21,491 units). This sees the Pune-based two-wheeler major’s bike share drop marginally to 16.57% from 18.20% in FY2024.
