Bengaluru-based smart electric scooter startup Ather Energy has sold over 16,000 units in a month, which is the third highest monthly sales it has registered since its market entry. As per retail sales data on the Vahan portal (as of August 1, 2025), the company has delivered 16,231 units in July 2025, which marks 11% month-on-month growth and 59% year-on-year growth (July 2024: 10,218 units).
July’s strong performance gives Ather a 16% share of the 102,865 electric scooters, motorcycles and mopeds sold across the country last month. And, cumulative sales in the first seven months of this year at 98,004 units are already 77% of its entire CY2024 sales of 126,355 units. If the current pace of sales is maintained, expect Ather Energy to go past the 150,000-unit annual mark for the first time in CY2025.
Ather Energy’s best-ever monthly retail sales were in March 2024, when it sold 17,430 units in what was the FAME II subsidy-ending month. The second-best monthly sales were in the festive month of October 2024 (16,248 units). This is just 17 units more than July 2025’s 16,231 units and it’s likely when Vahan numbers factors in more registrations as of the last few days of July, last month could just turn out to be the second best-ever sales month for the manufacturer of the 450S, 450X, 450 Apex and the Rizta.
July 2025’s retail sales of 16,231 units give Ather Energy a 16% market share. First seven-month sales at 98,004 units are already 77% of entire CY2024 sales of 126,355 units.
RIZTA SUCCESSFULLY TAPS THE FAMILY SCOOTER SEGMENT
The Rizta, which is marketed as a family scooter, marked a strategic product shift for Ather, whose previous three 450 Series models (450S, 450X, 450 Apex) are all zero-emission performance machines. Designed and developed with a focus on practicality – and also to take on the competition in the form of the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Hero Vida – the Rizta’s highlights include the largest two-wheeler seat in India, ample storage space and a host of user-friendly features.
The company's flagship e-scooter, the Rizta surpassed 100,000 wholesales 13 months after launch in April 2024. It remains its key growth driver and currently contributes over 60% of the EV startup’s total sales each month. This is creditable given that the three-variant flagship scooter is a premium product priced from Rs 99,999 (Rizta S) to Rs 114,500 (Rizta Z 2.9) and to Rs 142,000 (Rizta Z 3.7). While the Rizta S version (2.9 kWh battery) has a 123km range, the Z variant (3.7 kWh) has a 159km range.
On July 1, Ather expanded the Rizta portfolio with the Rizta S equipped with a 3.7kWh battery pack, offering an IDC range of 159km and priced at Rs 137,047 (ex-showroom Delhi). The 3.7kWh variant comes with a host of features that offer best-in-class safety, convenience, and connectivity features. Like its Ather siblings, the Rizta gets access to Ather's fast-charging network, the Ather Grid, which now spans over 3,900 charging points across the country.
Ather’s wholesales for the first quarter of FY2026 (April-June 2025) at 46,907 units were up 97% YoY (Q1 FY2025: 23,816 units). This is mainly due to the surging demand for the Rizta which accounted for 73% of the factory dispatches to dealers across India. In comparison, demand for the 450S, 450X and 450 Apex was down year on year.
On July 31, in an effort to rev up demand for the 450S model, Ather launched a new variant powered by a 3.7kWh battery which offers a longer range of 161km on a single charge and priced at Rs 145,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). The 450S 3.7kWh has been introduced to bridge the gap between entry-level performance scooters while offering extended range.
The 329,908 units sold since January 2023 till end-July 2025 constitute 82% of Ather Energy's total retails of 402,207 units and reflect the rapid pace of demand.
CUMULATIVE ATHER ENERGY RETAIL SALES RIDE PAST 400,000 MILESTONE
Ather Energy’s strong market performance in the first seven months of CY2025 has seen it achieve a new sales milestone of 400,000 units. As per retail sales numbers available on the Vahan portal, the EV startup which launched its first e-scooter in end-2018 has clocked cumulative sales of 402,207 units till end-July 2025 (see data table above).
While sales in the first four years from CY2018 to CY2021 were minimal, and included the two-year impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, demand took off from CY2022 when Ather sold 51,812 units and accounted for an 8% share of the e-2W industry sales of 156,326 units.
In CY2023, when its sales crossed the 100,000 mark for the first time, Ather (104,739 units, up 104%) had a 12% market share. In CY2024, the EV maker clocked its best-ever annual retail sales of 126,355 units and had an 11% share of 1.14 million e-2Ws sold in India. And in the current calendar year’s first seven months, with 98,004 units and 56% YoY growth, Ather has a 14% market share.
The 329,908 electric scooters sold since January 2023 till end-July 2025 constitute 82% of Ather Energy's total retails of 402,207 units till date and clearly reflect the rapid pace of demand.
