TVS Akula likely to be named Apache RR 310S
Government trademark website reveals the likely name of the upcoming TVS motorcycle whose launch is expected around July 2017.
TVS Motor Co had unveiled the Akula, an all-carbon-fibre race bike concept based on the BMW G 310 R, at Auto Expo 2016. While it was expected that the concept’s name, Akula 310, would make it to the production model, there was news that the motorcycle would stick to TVS’ naming scheme and would be called the Apache RTR 300.
However, based on information on the government of India’s Intellectual Property website, it seems that TVS has filed a trademark for 'Apache RR 310S'. The date of this application has been listed as April 26, 2017.
The Apache RR 310S doesn’t completely cut itself off from the Akula (Russian for ‘shark’) moniker. The Akula, shown at the Auto Expo, had extensive use of carbon-fibre along with other lightweight materials like aluminium. The shark-like cues are evident in areas such as underneath the seat that resembles a dorsal fin to improve aerodynamics, the gill-inspired thermal management system, and the flat, sharp nose.
