‘Transport sector responsible for 40% of air pollution’: Nitin Gadkari: Report

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the transportation industry is accountable for 40% of air pollution in India, and urged the industry to work on greener fuel alternatives, PTI reported. Of this, 90% comes from the road transport segment, the minister said while talking at the GH2 Summit, PTI reported.

He further added that green hydrogen cost needs to reduce from the present Rs 300 per kg to US$ 1 per kg (Rs 83 at the present exchange rate), PTI reported.

Proven technology, economic feasibility, and marketability of the finished product besides import substitution were some strategies that could be followed, he said, as reported by PTI.

Talking about 135 ongoing projects in India on alternative fuels, he added that there would be significant demand for cars going ahead, and said that the technologies developed by them would have takers, PTI reported.

Our country has overtaken Japan to gain the spot of the third-biggest auto manufacturer in the world, adding that he aims to make India the biggest (auto manufacturer) in the world in a span of 3 years, with an industry of Rs 15 lakh crore, PTI reported.
