OPmobility appoints GK Sharma as India region chairperson

French auto component maker OPmobility, previously known as Plastic Omnium, has appointed GK Sharma as the region chairperson of its India operations.

OPmobility is a key player in the car module space with offerings such as bumpers and tailgates, and exterior systems, besides plastic fuel tank systems. It also bought Varroc Engineering’s four-wheeler lighting business a few years ago.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Region Chairperson - India (Group OPmobility) at OPmobility,” Sharma wrote on LinkedIn.

Sharma will report to the company’s Chief Executive Officer Laurent Favre in his new role, which is an addition to his existing role as India Country Director for the exterior business. Sharma will roll out the company’s strategic vision of its operations in India.

Recently, Favre told Autocar Professional that OPmobility has set a target to double its turnover from the Indian market to 400 million euros over the next five years. China, the US, and Germany are the group's biggest markets in terms of turnover. However, Favre sees a big opportunity for growth in India with the surging vehicle sales.

OPmobility’s growth in India is expected to come from not only exterior systems but also plastic fuel bank businesses. The company currently has four manufacturing plants in India (Pune, Chennai, Sanand and Gurgaon) and is setting up one more in Pune for the exterior systems.

OPmobility's India strategy is to serve the domestic market here with the addressable market expected to witness significant growth. It currently has no plans to export from India.
