Mercedes-AMG SL55 to launch in India on June 22

Mercedes-Benz will launch the SL roadster in India on June 22, 2023. The iconic Mercedes-Benz SL, currently in its seventh-generation, will be sold in India in its SL55 roadster guise, and like its predecessors, will be brought in as a CBU. The SL has been a popular model for Mercedes-Benz in India with quite a few examples of almost every generation present in the country.

Mercedes-Benz SL returns to India after over a decade
The SL-Class is the flagship two-door roadster for Mercedes-Benz globally and its lineage goes all the way back to the iconic 190SL from the '50s. The Mercedes-Benz SL was sold in India only in fifth generation guise that went on sale back in 2012, while the sixth-generation SL was not sold here.

Mercedes-Benz SL: seventh-gen car replaces three models
The seventh-generation SL headed to our shores technically replaces the S-Class cabriolet, the AMG GT Roadster and the sixth-gen SL in the German brand’s global line-up. It brings back the fabric roof and the 2+2 layout of earlier iterations. It also receives four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering as standard.

Mercedes-Benz SL gets AMG treatment for entire line up
The latest-gen Mercedes SL, unlike its earlier generations, is available only in the AMG guise. The SL is expected to share its drivetrain, chassis, electrical architecture and other key components with the second-generation AMG GT that's mostly due later this year.

Mercedes-Benz SL: India gets the 478hp AMG SL55
India will get the Mercedes-AMG SL55, which brings back the '55' name to a Mercedes-AMG model – the G55 SUV was the last with until production ceased in 2012. It is powered by Mercedes-AMG’s M176 4.0-litre twin-turbo, V8 petrol engine good for 478hp and 700Nm, which is already in use in a number of Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG models globally.
