IIT Delhi offers certificate program in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Design

The Indian government has established a target to electrify 30% of new vehicle sales by 2030. In response, IIT Delhi, ranked 2nd in the Ministry of Education's NIRF 2023 engineering rankings, is offering a six-month program for engineers from mechanical, electrical, automotive, and related fields.

This program coincides with an increased demand for professionals skilled in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) design and development. Reports from Arthur D. Little and Counterpoint Research project significant growth in India's automotive and EV markets by 2035 and 2024, respectively.

The IITD Certificate Programme covers topics including thermodynamics, internal combustion engines, electric machines and drives, power electronics, automotive hybridisation, and battery design and modelling. It features live sessions by IITD faculty, industry insights, a Capstone project, and networking opportunities. An optional one-day campus immersion at IIT Delhi's Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) is also available.

The curriculum aims to teach participants about internal combustion engine characteristics, vehicle hybridisation and electrification, electric machines and propulsion technologies for HEVs, energy storage systems, and battery performance testing and modelling.

Eligibility requirements include an engineering degree or diploma in relevant fields from a recognized institution. The program is scheduled to begin on September 29, 2024, with a fee of Rs 1,10,000 plus GST. Participants who meet the minimum grade and attendance requirements will receive a certificate of completion from CEP, IIT Delhi.
