Zingbus Expands Electric Bus Fleet Through Operator Partnership Model
The intercity mobility platform plans to deploy over 1,000 electric buses through its operator-led approach, potentially offsetting more than 36,000 tons of annual carbon emissions across Indian highways.
Zingbus, an intercity smart mobility platform, has outlined progress in its electric vehicle initiative, which relies on partnerships with bus operators rather than direct fleet ownership.
The company has moved away from the traditional Company-Owned, Company-Operated model, instead enabling operators to run electric buses while zingbus provides revenue management and technology support customized for electric fleet operations. Currently, more than 250 operators are integrated into the platform.
According to the company, this approach addresses challenges that operators face when transitioning to electric vehicles. Zingbus has developed a proprietary technology stack designed to facilitate EV adoption without requiring substantial upfront investments from partners.
Performance data indicates that zingbus electric coaches are achieving higher occupancy rates and net promoter scores compared to internal combustion engine vehicles on identical routes. The company states this reflects passenger preference for electric options over diesel alternatives.
"Our operator partners are excited to go electric and by empowering them with an EV-ready operating system, we are not just adding electric buses but are unlocking an entirely new growth curve for intercity mobility," said Prashant Kumar, Co-founder of zingbus.
The company has set a target of deploying over 1,000 electric buses in the coming years, which it estimates would neutralize approximately 36,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.
Zingbus operates an asset-light model across India's intercity bus sector. The platform has facilitated over 6 million journeys and maintains a presence in more than 200 cities across 20 states, working with approximately 300 buses through its partner network.
