Uber Intercity Expands to 3,000+ Routes, Launches Motorhomes in Delhi NCR

Uber has expanded its Intercity service to more than 3,000 city-to-city routes across India, marking a 50% increase in its intercity route network. The expansion comes amid growing demand for outstation road travel and improvements in India’s highway infrastructure, the company said.

As part of the rollout, Uber is introducing a limited-time offering: custom-designed Motorhomes available for booking in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). The Motorhomes will be available from August 7 to September 6, with bookings opening on August 4 through the Uber app, which will feature a dedicated icon for the service.

Each Motorhome is designed to accommodate 4–5 passengers and includes amenities such as a television, onboard lavatory, microwave, and mini-refrigerator. The vehicles will be operated by a driver and an assistant, aiming to provide a more comfortable and convenient travel experience for long-distance trips. The service retains key features of Uber Intercity, including advance bookings via the Reserve option, real-time location tracking, the ability to add stops during the journey, and access to 24x7 customer support.

According to Uber, the Intercity product has seen steady year-on-year growth, driven by both leisure and essential travel. The most frequently traveled routes over the past 12 months include Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, Bengaluru–Mysore, Lucknow–Kanpur, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara. Travel demand peaks during long weekends, holidays, and festive periods such as Diwali, Holi, Eid, and the wedding season.

Fridays emerge as the most popular day for intercity travel, with peak departure times occurring in the early morning and between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., when traffic congestion is relatively lower. Round-trip bookings are commonly used for leisure, religious pilgrimages, and event attendance, while one-way trips are primarily linked to family visits, business travel, and connections to airports or railway stations.

Shweta Mantri, Head of Rider Verticals at Uber India and South Asia, stated that the expansion reflects changing travel preferences, with more users seeking reliable and comfortable options for intercity journeys. “Uber Intercity aims to meet the growing demand for seamless outstation travel. With expanded coverage and new offerings like the Motorhome, we’re enhancing the experience for riders across India,” she said.

The Motorhome initiative is positioned as a pilot to explore premium travel options and assess customer interest in enhanced long-distance mobility solutions.

Uber launched operations in India in 2013 and currently serves over 125 cities. The platform offers a range of mobility options, including autos, motorcycles, cars, and public bus services. The company reports that more than 3 billion trips have been completed on its platform in India to date. Uber also states that its services support over 1.4 million driver-partners who earn income through the platform.

The expansion of Uber Intercity and the introduction of Motorhomes underscore the company’s continued focus on diversifying its mobility offerings in response to evolving consumer needs.
