While the Nexon iCNG concept showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show had a 5-speed manual gearbox, sources tell us that Tata Motors will also introduce an AMT automatic to the Nexon CNG range.

As for looks and features, the Nexon CNG’s exterior, interior and equipment list would be identical to the standard SUV. However, there could be a few CNG-related mechanical upgrades to the suspension, along with a couple of iCNG badges to distinguish it within the line-up.

The Nexon CNG will come with the same 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine as its pure petrol counterparts, making it India’s first CNG vehicle with a turbocharged engine.

With the addition of an AMT gearbox, the Nexon will be the third Tata product to offer a CNG-AMT combination after the Tigor and Tiago.

The Nexon will continue to be one of the few models in India with a diverse powertrain option that will include CNG, pure petrol, diesel and even EV.  The Nexon CNG will be aimed squarely at the Brezza CNG in our market.
