Tata AutoComp and Katcon Global Launch Joint Venture for Advanced Composites in Mexico

Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd. and Katcon Global announced a new joint venture in Mexico on May 14, 2025, to manufacture advanced composite materials focused on the North American market. The venture will produce lightweight components for passenger and commercial vehicles, agricultural tractors, off-road vehicles, and non-automotive segments.

The collaboration builds upon a 13-year partnership between the companies in India, where they previously focused on exhaust systems and emission after-treatment solutions. Tata AutoComp will contribute technology and customer relationships, while Katcon will provide operational expertise, regulatory knowledge, and local execution capabilities.

According to Arvind Goel, Vice Chairman of Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd., this venture represents a significant shift in their partnership model. "This joint venture marks a significant milestone for Tata AutoComp, as it is the first time we are entering a partnership where we are contributing the core technology," said Goel. The company's Composite Division, which recently received the Deming Award, brings proprietary technology including patented formulations for composite compounds.

Carlos Turner, CEO of Katcon, stated that the joint venture positions the companies to deliver lightweight solutions for the North American automotive market. "This joint venture reflects our shared commitment to innovation and excellence," Turner said.

Tata AutoComp, established in 1995 and part of the Tata Group, serves global original equipment manufacturers across multiple vehicle segments. The company employs over 20,000 people across 18 business units, including nine joint ventures with global auto-component firms. Its operations span India, North America, Latin America, Europe, and China, with 61 manufacturing facilities worldwide.

Katcon Global, founded in 1993 and headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico, supplies exhaust systems, thermal insulation, and lightweight composite solutions to the transportation industry. The company operates manufacturing and research facilities across North America, Europe, and Asia.

The joint venture aligns with both companies' strategies to expand their global presence and serve customers through sustainable materials, particularly as the automotive industry continues to seek lightweight solutions for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.
