Sunjay Kapur Takes Charge as Chairman of CII Northern Region for 2025-26
Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar, will lead CII Northern Region, with Puneet Kaura, MD & CEO of Samtel Avionics, as Deputy Chairman. Their focus will be on industry growth, innovation, and strengthening MSMEs across key states and Union Territories.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Northern Region has announced its new leadership for 2025-26 following its Annual Regional Meeting in New Delhi. Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar, has been elected as Chairman, while Puneet Kaura, Managing Director & CEO of Samtel Avionics, has been appointed as Deputy Chairman. Kapur who served as the CII Northern Region Deputy Chairman for 2024-25 takes the charge from JK Cement's Madhav Singhania for 2025-26.
The newly appointed leadership will oversee CII Northern Region’s initiatives across seven states—Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand—as well as three Union Territories—Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. Their focus will be on enhancing industry competitiveness, supporting business growth, and driving innovation in the region.
Sunjay Kapur is the Chairman of Sona Comstar, a mobility technology company specializing in engineered automotive components. Established in 1995 and headquartered in Gurugram, Sona Comstar operates manufacturing and R&D facilities in India, the USA, Serbia, Mexico, and China. The company is also a supplier to the Electric Vehicle (EV) sector.
With over two decades of experience in the automotive and manufacturing industries, Kapur has been actively involved in CII initiatives. He previously served as the Chair of the CII Europe Committee (2023-24), working on trade and business collaborations between India and Europe. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of CII-Triveni Water Institute, contributing to sustainability and water conservation initiatives.
Speaking on the priorities for the coming year, Kapur said, “Our strategic roadmap for 2025-26 focuses on six key priority areas to drive industrial growth and policy reforms—Policy Advocacy, Growth & Inclusiveness, Strengthening MSMEs, Membership Engagement, Skill Development, and Innovation & Sustainability. A key imperative is to fortify the connection between MSMEs, startups, and academia, creating a synergy that amplifies the region's inherent strengths and unlocks new opportunities for economic growth.”
Puneet Kaura, the newly appointed Deputy Chairman, leads Samtel Avionics, a company specializing in avionics, rugged displays, and defense electronics. Under his leadership, the company has developed technology solutions for fighter jets, helicopters, and land-based systems while forging partnerships with defense OEMs and government agencies.
Kaura has also been engaged in CII leadership roles, previously serving as Chairman of CII Delhi. His experience in industrial growth strategies, government policies, and technology-driven manufacturing is expected to contribute to CII Northern Region’s initiatives.
