Setco Auto Systems Signs MoU with VNIT Nagpur for Automotive Research
The partnership will focus on multiple areas, including the development of next-generation drivetrains, advancements in friction facing technology, electric mobility, and sustainable vehicle solutions.
Setco Auto Systems Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Setco Automotive Limited, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, to collaborate on research and innovation in automotive technology.
The partnership will focus on multiple areas, including the development of next-generation drivetrains, advancements in friction facing technology, electric mobility, and sustainable vehicle solutions. As part of the agreement, a Clutch Research Laboratory will be established in VNIT’s Mechanical Engineering Department. The facility will enable joint work on new product development, advanced testing methods, and improvements in existing clutch systems aimed at enhancing performance, durability, and product life.
The collaboration also includes provisions for student engagement. VNIT students will gain hands-on experience through live industry projects, internships, and mentorship opportunities with Setco’s R&D experts, giving them exposure to industrial practices and advanced testing facilities.
Commenting on the development, Harish Sheth, Chairman and Managing Director of Setco Automotive Limited, said the initiative combines the company’s industry experience with VNIT’s academic expertise to create a platform for innovation and talent development.
VNIT Nagpur, established in 1960 and designated as an Institute of National Importance in 2002, is one of India’s leading engineering institutions with a strong focus on research.
Setco Automotive, founded in 1982, is a manufacturer of medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) clutches and a supplier of truck components including brake linings, flywheels, lubricants, release bearing assemblies, and universal joints. The company operates five manufacturing facilities and has R&D centres in India and the UK, serving markets in the US, UK, SAARC, and the Middle East.
