PM Flags Off 200 PMI Electric Buses in Push for Green Mobility

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 200 electric DEVi buses manufactured by PMI Electro Mobility in Delhi. The initiative is part of a broader push to promote sustainable public transportation and reduce carbon emissions under the government’s Green Viksit Bharat mission.

The newly launched electric buses will operate across 30 designated green routes in the capital, supporting the transition toward zero-emission mobility. With this addition, PMI now operates more than 2,500 electric buses in 31 cities nationwide. These vehicles are projected to reduce over 250,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

In conjunction with the bus flag-off, the Prime Minister also planted a banyan tree sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The initiative emphasizes environmental protection and encourages citizens to participate in afforestation activities.

To support the tree-planting movement, PMI distributed 10,000 biodegradable seed cards containing basil and wildflower seeds. These cards are intended to promote community-based greening efforts and raise awareness around environmental stewardship.

Founded in 2017, PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is one of India’s leading manufacturers of electric commercial vehicles, with a particular focus on electric buses. Headquartered in Delhi-NCR, PMI has established itself as a key player in the country's electric mobility transition, aligning closely with national objectives for sustainable transportation and emission reduction.

PMI specializes in the production of electric buses across various segments, including 7-metre, 9-metre, and 12-metre variants, along with electric school buses. The company’s manufacturing facility has an annual production capacity of over 2,500 electric buses. These vehicles are built using advanced technologies and are designed to meet the diverse needs of urban and regional public transport systems.

As of June 2025, PMI operates a fleet of over 2,500 electric buses across 31 cities in India. These e-buses are estimated to collectively reduce more than 250,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year—translating to over 3 million metric tons over their operational lifetime.

PMI’s buses are powered by lithium-ion batteries and are equipped with features such as fast charging, regenerative braking, and telematics systems to enhance performance, safety, and energy efficiency. The company's vehicles are used by several public transport undertakings (PTUs) and are often procured through government-led tenders under schemes like FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India).

In addition to manufacturing, PMI also manages after-sales service and support, ensuring vehicle uptime through dedicated maintenance teams and service infrastructure. Its “Green Routes” initiative, launched to promote environmental awareness, complements its business model by encouraging sustainable practices among communities.
