MG Showcases New Electric Vehicle Lineup at Shanghai Auto Show
British automotive brand introduces Cyber X concept and updated Cyberster models as part of strategic expansion into diverse mobility segments.
MG Motor unveiled its new Cyber vehicle lineup at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show on Thursday, featuring the Cyber X 'Box' concept alongside the MG Cyberster MY 2026 and Cyberster Black 101st Anniversary Edition.
The Cyber X concept, designed by Joseph Kaban, formerly responsible for the Bugatti Veyron, represents what the company calls a "global urban adventure toy." The vehicle features a distinctive silhouette with short overhangs and a Stardust Gray exterior that displays a matte sandstone texture when stationary. The design incorporates elements reminiscent of classic pop-up headlights while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency.
The updated Cyberster models include two new exterior colors—Iris Blue and Andes Gray—and dual-tone interior options in Red/Black or Gray/White. Technical improvements include a wind deflector that reportedly reduces cabin turbulence by 90 percent. According to MG, the Cyberster has sold over 3,000 units globally in six months, making it the world's best-selling electric coupe.
These vehicles signal MG's shift from its traditional sports car focus to a broader approach encompassing off-road vehicles, urban commuters, and leisure vehicles. The company aims to expand its appeal beyond sports car enthusiasts to a wider range of consumers.
MG Motor, founded in the UK in 1924, was originally known for its sports cars and roadsters that gained popularity among high-profile customers, including British prime ministers and members of the royal family. After a century of operation, the brand now emphasizes connected, autonomous, shared, and electric (CASE) mobility.
In India, MG operates through JSW MG Motor India Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture established in 2023 between SAIC Motor and JSW Group. The company maintains manufacturing facilities in Halol, Gujarat, with an annual production capacity exceeding 100,000 vehicles and employing approximately 6,000 people directly and indirectly.
The brand has previously introduced several vehicles to the Indian market, including the MG Hector (India's first Internet SUV), MG ZS EV (India's first pure electric Internet SUV), and models with autonomous driving features.
