Maruti e-Vitara series production starts tomorrow
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first unit of the e-Vitara along with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Keiichi Ono, the Ambassador of Japan.
Maruti Suzuki is set to commence series production of its much-anticipated e-Vitara born-electric SUV at Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat from tomorrow.
Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will be present at the event alon with Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel and Mr. Keiichi Ono, the Ambassador of Japan, among other dignitaries.
The made-in-India e-Vitara will not only cater to the domestic market but will also be exported to over 100 countries, including Japan, Suzuki’s home market.
Alongside the SUV’s production start, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the production of Li-ion battery cells and electrodes for strong hybrid vehicles at the TDS Li-Ion Battery Gujarat (TDSG) facility in Hansalpur—a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki.
Despite earlier delays caused by disruptions in the supply of rare earth materials, Maruti Suzuki remains confident of meeting its full-year target of 67,000 units. Ahead of the start of production, the brand has already ramped up capacity to enable production of nearly 59,000 units of the e-Vitara between October 2025 and March 2026, with peak capacity reaching up to 440 vehicles per day.
The e-Vitara made its global debut in Europe late last year and was showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. Built on the new 40PL dedicated EV platform, co-developed with Toyota, the e-Vitara will also spawn a Toyota sibling—the Urban Cruiser EV.
The born electric SUV will be offered with 49kWh and 61kWh battery options, with the larger pack available in a dual-motor AWD (AllGrip-e) configuration. Details on variants, equipment and the India launch timeline are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
