Mappls App Launches Regional Language Support for Navigation Solutions
Addressing linguistic diversity, Mappls MapmyIndia introduces navigation services in nine Indian languages
Mappls MapmyIndia has implemented support for nine regional languages in its navigation application, announced during an event marking the company's 30th anniversary on February 20, 2025. The feature was formally introduced by Surveyor General of India, Shri Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, IAS.
The application now provides functionality in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, and Gujarati. This update extends to all interface elements including maps, search capabilities, navigation instructions, and voice guidance. A notable aspect of this implementation is that language selection functions nationwide rather than regionally, allowing users to maintain their preferred language regardless of location within India.
According to Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder and CMD of MapmyIndia, this development addresses the needs of India's smartphone user base, estimated at over 700 million. The company reports that its navigation application currently serves more than 30 million users.
The company's mapping infrastructure encompasses 99.9% of India's road network (6.6 million kilometers), with information on 30 million businesses and coverage of 7,900+ towns and 637,000+ villages. MapmyIndia continues development of enhanced features including three-dimensional landmarks, real-time updates, and high-definition mapping solutions.
MapmyIndia, which developed India's first digital mapping solution in 1995 and launched the country's initial online mapping portal in 2004, continues to expand its services. The company currently serves over 2,000 enterprise clients and has integrated global mapping data for more than 200 countries into its platform.
India's digital map and navigation industry is booming, driven by a large and rapidly growing smartphone user base, increasing internet penetration, and government initiatives like Digital India. The market is expected to reach a projected revenue of US$ 3,385.2 million by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 18.6% from 2024 to 2030.
Key players in the market include MapmyIndia, Google Maps, and HERE Technologies. These companies are constantly innovating to provide users with more accurate and comprehensive maps, as well as new features such as real-time traffic updates, 3D maps, and indoor navigation.
The industry is also being driven by the growth of related sectors such as e-commerce, logistics, and transportation. Digital maps and navigation are essential for these industries to operate efficiently and effectively.
