MapmyIndia Co-Founder Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at Global Geospatial Forum

Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder and Chairman & Managing Director of MapmyIndia, has been conferred the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th Geospatial World Forum held in Madrid, Spain. The award was presented by His Excellency Dinesh K. Patnaik, Indian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, on April 25, 2025.

The Geospatial World Forum (GWF), a premier global platform for geospatial thought leadership and innovation, recognized Verma for his instrumental role in establishing indigenous digital mapping capabilities in India and expanding the country's geospatial technology to the international stage.

According to the award citation, Verma's pioneering efforts laid the foundation of India's digital mapping industry during a time when geospatial innovation was nascent in the country. His leadership and advocacy have reportedly driven critical policy reforms and technological innovation, transforming MapmyIndia into what the forum described as a "national geospatial powerhouse."

In his acceptance speech, Verma shared credit with Rashmi Verma, Co-Founder & CTO of MapmyIndia, and Rohan Verma, Director at MapmyIndia, highlighting the collaborative nature of the company's success. He dedicated the recognition to everyone who contributed to building the company and to India itself.

Established in 2007, the Geospatial World Forum Awards recognize outstanding contributions by professionals, institutions, government bodies, and businesses in the global geospatial ecosystem. This year's jury was chaired by Dr. Greg Scott, Director of SDG Data Alliance at PVBLIC Foundation, and included geospatial leaders from the United States, South Africa, Belgium, and India.
