Kia Reveals Carens Clavis EV with Claimed 490 km Range
Prices for the Carens Clavis EV are set to be announced on July 15.
Ahead of its price announcement on July 15, a new video teaser now gives us a partial look at the exterior and interior of the upcoming Kia Carens Clavis EV. Unsurprisingly, not a lot has changed from the regular ICE-powered Carens Clavis, save for some EV-specific updates. The bigger news is that the Kia Carens Clavis EV will have a claimed range of 490km on a single charge.
Kia Carens Clavis EV range details
Battery is expected to be shared with Creta Electric
While Kia hasn’t shared the battery size or the number of battery options that will be on offer with the Carens Clavis EV, it is expected to be shared with the Hyundai Creta Electric. The latter comes with two battery options: 42kWh and 51.4kWh. The smaller battery has an ARAI claimed range of 390km, while the Long Range (LR) offers a 473km range.
It is likely that the 490km claimed range for the Carens Clavis EV is from the larger battery pack, which means it is 17km more than the Creta Electric. The 171hp/255Nm front axle electric motor is also expected to be shared with the Creta Electric.
Kia Carens Clavis EV exterior and interior updates
Subtle EV-specific updates inside out
The only exterior changes visible for now include a slightly reworked front bumper and new aero-efficient alloy wheels with a dual-tone design. The regular Carens Clavis already had a sealed-off fascia, but this one now has the charging socket located on the nose. It also gets a new silver garnish just below the charging flap and new ice-cubed LED fog lamps as well.
On the inside, this being an EV, the centre console has been reworked with a new floating design. The absence of a gear lever seems to have opened up a lot of storage space and there’s also a nmew wireless charging pad with a few controls ahead of it. The overall dashboard with the twin 12.3-inch screens remains largely unchanged, but Kia has used a different colour scheme for the EV version.
For now, the Carens Clavis EV has only been teased in a 7-seater configuration; it remains to be seen if a 6-seater layout is also offered like on the top-spec ICE-powered Clavis. Upon launch, the Kia Carens Clavis EV will rival the BYD eMax 7 in our market. We expect Carens Clavis EV prices to be similar to the Creta Electric which is priced between Rs 17.99 lakh and Rs 24.38 lakh (ex-showroom).
