Kumar's promotion from Passenger Vehicle ICE division to strategic leadership role reflects Mahindra's commitment to internal talent development for cross-sector initiatives.

Exclusive: Mahindra Elevates Amit Kumar as Vice President, Group Strategy Office

Mahindra & Mahindra has announced the elevation of Amit Kumar, currently Vertical Head – Passenger Vehicle ICE, to Vice President, Group Strategy Office, effective July 1, 2025. The appointment is part of the Group’s leadership development strategy focused on nurturing internal talent for high-impact, cross-sectoral roles.

Kumar will be among the 6-8 VPs in Mahindra's Group Strategy Office, overseeing different areas and reporting to Anish Shah.  

Kumar will lead strategic initiatives across Mahindra’s diverse businesses and report directly to the Group CEO’s office in his new capacity.

Announcing the appointment, Dr. Anish Shah, MD & CEO, Mahindra & Mahindra, told Employees, “As part of our talent management philosophy to provide opportunities to internal talents to take on challenging opportunities and assignments, we are pleased to announce that Amit Kumar, Vertical Head, Passenger Vehicle ICE, will be moving as Vice President, Group Strategy Office, effective July 1st, 2025.”

“In this role, he will lead high-impact projects across sectors and report to me,” added Shah. 

Kumar brings extensive cross-functional experience in platform delivery, purchase, and operations across the automotive and farm sectors. He played a critical role at the Mahindra Trucks and Buses Division (MTBD) in advancing Automotive Technology and Product Development (ATPD), driving Furio platform development, program management, and cost-reduction initiatives at MTBD.

Before his current role, Kumar served as Group Chief Platform Head in ATPD until July 2024, leading the development of new ICE and EV small commercial vehicles, including the successful Veero platform. He later transitioned to Vertical Head – Passenger Vehicle ICE, where he was responsible for launching the Thar Roxx and shaping the company’s ICE product strategy for the coming years.
