BorgWarner Secures Dual-Clutch Programs in China, Expands OEM Partnerships

BorgWarner has announced two developments in its dual-clutch transmission (DCT) business in China. The company has secured a new contract with a Chinese transmission manufacturer and extended its ongoing partnership with a German original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the region for another seven years.

The renewed agreement with the German OEM builds on a decade-long collaboration and involves the supply of DCT clutch assemblies for vehicles powered by internal combustion engines and mild hybrid systems. These components, manufactured at BorgWarner’s Tianjin facility, are designed to reduce rotational inertia and minimize friction losses, contributing to improved transmission efficiency.

In a separate development, BorgWarner has signed a contract to provide a DCT clutch module for a leading Chinese OEM’s SUVs and sedans, which will be marketed both in China and internationally. Production of the module will take place at the company’s Taicang facility, with mass production scheduled to begin by the end of 2025.

The product is designed for a compact build, thermal durability, and cost efficiency. These features are expected to support smooth gear shifting, effective hill starts, and stable performance during acceleration.
