Rane takes big step in employee development
The Rane group has been focusing on employee training in a big way. As part of this endeavour, it recently unveiled the Rane Institute of Employee Development (RIED) facility. According to chairman, L Ganesh, there is a need to invest in technology, create capacities, implement efficient production systems and build competencies of people which can only be achieved through specialised training. This is where RIED plays a vital role.

Today’s competitive business scenario calls for developing leaders and managers to drive organisations as well as creation of world class infrastructure facilities to nurture future leaders. Ganesh says RIED is aimed at meeting this growing demand of group companies. The underlying vision of the Rane group is in stimulating and nurturing the intrinsic desire within people to learn, grow and enhance performance.

The goal is to recruit and retain high calibre employees, encourage and recognise outstanding merit, create opportunities for professional growth and satisfaction, foster employee involvement and develop a work ethos that builds dignity and pride besides developing leadership capabilities. According to the chairman, the group’s HR strategies and initiatives are aimed at attracting, engaging and rewarding people and getting them into the Rane culture. Employees’ roles, he adds, are clearly defined so that performance can be assessed fairly. They are rewarded in terms of compensation and benefits, continuous learning and growth, challenging career tracks and opportunity to advance further.

Ganesh believes that the special curriculum offered by RIED will help the group achieve its business goals. Readers may find it interesting to know that it was launched over a decade ago in a leased premise. Since then, RIED has become the core of Rane’s talent development system. Each employee spends six days each year on training. “Our attempt is to provide part-training from RIED while the rest is outsourced,” Ganesh says.

The new facility, costing Rs 4.6 crore, is on a sprawling 43,000 square foot campus with built up space of 16,000 sq ft. It has state-of-the-art facilities which include a Wi-Fi enabled environment library, HVAC systems, high efficiency water system design and environment-friendly refrigerant. More than 20 percent of materials used in the building have high recycled content. Training at RIED is supported by visiting faculties from leading institutions and managers from within the Rane fold. The institute also provides consulting support in specialised areas. T MURRALI
