Piaggio launches two new 150cc Vespa models in India

Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio has launched two new Vespa variants for the Indian market named the SXL and the VXL.

The two Vespa variants will be offered with an all new 150cc three valve engine, which makes a solid 11.5bhp of peak power at 5500 rpm.

Both the SXL and the VXL will also be available with a125cc engine too.

The 150cc SXL is priced at 88,696 rupees while the 150cc VXL will cost 84,641 rupees. The 125cc SXL has a sticker price of 81,967 rupees while the VXL 125cc is priced at 77,308 rupees (all prices ex-showroom Pune).

The scooters feature various creature comforts like a digital instrument cluster, 11-inch front alloy wheel, tubeless tyres and a single piece monocoque steel body.

Speaking to Autocar Professional at the launch event in Mumbai today, Stefano Pele, managing director, Piaggio Vehicles said that the new Vespa is almost 100 percent localised and is manufactured at the Baramati plant.

The Italian manufacturer entered the Indian two wheeler market in 2012 with the Vespa and while it has not had an extraordinary run in India so far, the company is betting big here and will get more products including motorcycles in the country.
