In line with its ‘15 in 2015’ model strategy, luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India today rolled out three new models – the S500Coupe priced at Rs 2 crore, the AMG S63 Coupe at Rs 2.60 crore and the AMG G63 Crazy Colour Edition at Rs 2.17 crore (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). With this, the carmaker has introduced nine new products in the Indian market this year.

The S 500 Coupé is the two-door version of the S 500 sedan already on sale in India. The features will be similar to that of the standard S 500, but the rear end is differently styled and gets a more sloping profile. The car is powered by a 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 developing 449.2bhp and 71.4kgm of torque.

The S 500 Coupe gets features such as panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, Adaptive High Beam assist plus, Night view assist plus along with Mercedes Pre-Safe. Additionally, Mercedes also offers 'Magic Sky Control' as an optional add-on. The system allows the occupants to change the opacity of the sunroof at the touch of a button. Also an optional add-on is Swarowski crystal encrusted headlamps.

The S 63 AMG Coupé's styling is like that of the S 500 Coupé, but with added AMG influences like aggressive body kit and carbon-fibre bits inside the cabin. It is powered by a 5.5-litre twin-turbo AMG V8 developing 577bhp and 91.77kgm of torque mated to an AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed gearbox with three drive modes.

All the three new models will also come into India as CBUs with very limited numbers of the AMG S63 Coupe on offer in India; all are believed to have been booked. The AMG G63 Crazy Colour Edition has also received a good number of bookings.

“By introducing segment benchmark products from its global portfolio, Mercedes-Benz continues to provide a top of the pyramid model line-up,” said Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, at the launch in New Delhi today. “It is never before that Mercedes-Benz has launched three exclusive luxury cars in a day living up to its claim of ‘Best or Nothing’.”

Mercedes-Benz India has also launched a Designo app for the iPad that will enable hundreds of different combinations of customisation and personalisation. The Designo app will also significantly enhance the look of the car with the customer receiving instant price quotes for the model he/she has customised. At a rough estimate, the CBU model that will be imported from Germany has already started receiving customer bookings with customisation adding to the cost of the car by a minimum of Rs 40,000 and a maximum of Rs 10 lakh. The personal edition S-class car will run into a waiting period of 5-6 months using the design app, say officials.

The Designo offers exclusive paint finishes, quality interior appointments and trims. An important component of the Designo platform is the interior upholstery. The design leather upholstery comes in single or two-tone combinations with black design leather, varying on the Mercedes-Benz model.

Designo trim elements made in wood, piano lacquer, carbon fibre or stone are created out of fine materials. Designo wood trims are selected, sorted, stained, lacquered with several clear coats and finally polished all by hand. Similarly Designo stone trim is fashioned from granite following a patented procedure which includes a careful selection, cutting into water-thin sheets and finished. A piano lacquer trim, for instance, is created with similar care by coating the trim elements by up to 10 layers of lacquer.

Mercedes-Benz India posted 41 percent growth in H1, CY2015, selling 6,659 units in the January-June period. This sales growth also marks the brand’s highest ever Q2 volumes at 3,093 units (+43 percent).
