India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp has today unveiled a high-performance version of the Xtreme motorcycle in its portfolio.

As the name suggests, the new motorcycle gets a 200cc single cylinder air-cooled engine, which still remains equipped with a carburettor, just like its standard 150cc avatar. The engine on the Xtreme 200 churns out 18.14bhp of power at 8,000rpm and 17.1Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. However, Hero MotoCorp has added a balancer shaft to the engine to reduce the overall vibration levels on the motor.

The motorcycle sees 37mm diameter telescopic forks at the front end, while there is a 7-step adjustable monoshock doing duty under the seat to support the swingarm at the rear. While the styling is very conventional for a performance motorcycle, the Xtreme 200R gets two pilot LED lamps upfront and it also gets an LED tail-lamp cluster, completing the rear.

The Xtreme 200R gets a 220mm rear disc brake and the front 276mm disc also comes with the option of a single-channel ABS. The bike also gets a 17 inch radial tyre at the back for enhanced aesthetics and stability, which is also the first time a radial tyre has been introduced on a Hero motorcycle.

According to Pawan Munjal, chairman, managing director and CEO, Hero MotoCorp, “We have been constantly developing future technologies for our customers around the world and the all-new Xtreme 200R is the result of that same endeavour. With every new indigenously developed Hero two-wheeler, our commitment to the 'Make in India’ initiative is growing stronger and we will continue to keep innovating.”

Dr. Markus Braunsperger, chief technology officer, Hero MotoCorp, said, “The Xtreme 200R is a reflection of our product developmental capabilities and demonstrates the strenuous R&D efforts that are underway at the Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) at Jaipur. The motorcycle gets masculine attributes in its design and we also have other new products in the pipeline for CY2018.”

Malo Le Masson, head - Global Product Planning, Hero MotoCorp, said, “The Xtreme 200R is a bold and focused step towards reshaping our presence in the premium motorcycle segment. This is just the beginning and from 2018 onwards, the premium segment is the focus for us and we will continue to bring more products in this category going forward.”

The Xtreme 200R will be available in five colour options including Panther Black with cool silver, Panther Black with red, Sports Red, Charcoal Grey with orange and Techno Blue. The company says it will officially launch and reveal the prices for the bike post the 2018 Auto Expo.
