Auto Expo '16: Ford Mustang GT showcased
The Mustang for India gets a 420bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine; will be launched in second quarter of 2016.
Ford has showcased the Mustang at the Auto Expo 2016. The Mustang will go on sale in India in the second quarter of 2016. Currently in its sixth generation, the model made its debut in 2014 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
On the outside, the Mustang gets plenty of retro touches to the styling of the nose and rear, in addition to a bulging bonnet and brawny wheel arches. Design features such as the wide shoulders, raked roofline and lengthy bonnet lend the Mustang a commanding muscular look. The vehicle gets headlamps with LED tri-bar tail-lamps with sequential turn signals and dual exhaust pipes as standard.
The Mustang features aviation-inspired interiors complete with airplane-like toggle switches on the centre console. It also gets a leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio and speed controls and tilt steering column, bucket seats, and an infotainment system with touchscreen on the inside, along with ambient lighting and four driving modes – Normal, Sport+, Track and Wet. It also sports limited slip differential to improve traction and agility on slippery surfaces.
The car is equipped with electronic line lock as standard. This feature allows the front brakes to be locked electronically, while leaving the rear tyres free to spin, in order to enable drivers to perform burnouts while keeping the car stationary.
Speaking at the unveiling, Nigel Harris, president, Ford India said,“The new Mustang is a modern interpretation of the American icon, and we are thrilled to be giving our customers in India the opportunity to experience this piece of automotive history for the first time.” Ford has sold more than 9 million units of the vehicle worldwide since it first went on sale in1964, he added.
