Zomato Launches 300 Electric Bike Rental Fleet for Delivery Partners in Delhi

Zomato launched a rental fleet of 300 electric bikes for its delivery partners in Delhi on June 5, marking World Environment Day with an initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions from food delivery operations. Delhi Police Special Commissioner Ajay Chaudhary inaugurated the pilot program, which allows delivery partners to rent electric vehicles instead of using petrol-powered motorcycles.

The initiative supports Zomato's commitment to achieve 100% electric vehicle-based food deliveries by 2030 and net zero emissions across its operations by 2033. The company currently has over 37,000 active electric vehicle delivery partners as of March 2025, who have helped avoid approximately 4,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions during the financial year 2025.

Zomato's Chief Sustainability Officer Anjalli Ravi Kumar said the program addresses delivery partners' need for accessible sustainable mobility options. The rental model provides partners with electric bikes designed for food delivery requirements while allowing them to reduce operational costs compared to petrol vehicles.

Delhi Police's Chaudhary praised the initiative as an example of industry participation in pollution reduction efforts. He noted that the program benefits delivery partners, consumers, and Delhi residents through both economic and environmental impacts.

Saroj Raout, a delivery partner with two years of experience on the platform, said the rental option enables him to switch from his petrol motorcycle to an electric vehicle, potentially reducing running costs and increasing earnings while supporting environmental goals.

The company plans to expand the electric bike rental program to other regions based on adoption rates among delivery partners in the Delhi-NCR area. The initiative aligns with the Delhi government's objective to establish the capital as India's electric vehicle hub.

Zomato, founded in 2010, operates as a restaurant discovery and food delivery platform. The electric bike fleet launch forms part of the company's sustainability framework covering eight areas including waste reduction, climate-conscious deliveries, and inclusive growth.
